A blue slip is $82: an AUVIS inspection with an identity check, where the VIN, engine number and compliance plate are matched against your paperwork. It applies to a vehicle without current NSW registration, such as one bought unregistered, one moved from another state, or a car whose registration expired more than three months ago. Renewals are a different matter: once a vehicle is more than five years old, renewing its registration takes a pink slip, which is $52 and lodged electronically. If you would rather have the whole car written up, the vehicle health check is $99. Not sure what is wrong? The diagnostic is a fault-code scan and a road test, $49, then a written quote for any repair.
