Details
Servicing here does not affect your consumer guarantees, and manufacturer warranties generally do not require dealer servicing where the work meets the manufacturer's standards. We follow the schedule, use appropriate parts, stamp the logbook and keep the records.
How we service your Volkswagen
- Your manufacturer's service schedule, for your model, year and engine
- Oil carrying your engine's approval code, from Liqui Moly, Penrite, Motul, Castrol, Mobil and Valvoline
- OE-specification filters from Mann, Mahle, Ryco and Bosch
- Service indicator reset
- Logbook stamped and the records kept
- Price confirmed for your car before any work starts
What can change the price
Service schedule
Volkswagen Australia services most models every 12 months or 15,000 km, whichever comes first, and resets the service display at each one. Your car's own logbook is the final word for your model.
What a generic service misses
- The right oil for the engine code
- Two Golfs that look the same can need different approval codes. The engine code decides it, and 508 00 oil must never go into an engine that doesn't call for it.
- DSG gearbox oil
- The wet-clutch dual-clutch gearboxes have their own oil change on the schedule. It is easy to miss at an oil-only service.
- Haldex oil on 4Motion
- The all-wheel-drive coupling on 4Motion cars has a time-based oil change, so low-kilometre cars come due too.
- Brake fluid on time, not kilometres
- Brake fluid ages with time. It is changed when it falls due by age, whatever the odometer says.
Needs a scan tool: Service display reset · Electronic parking brake service mode for rear pads · Fault code read
What moves the figure
- How much oil your engine takes
- Engines take different amounts. Yours always gets its full fill, and the price is confirmed for your car.
- The oil your engine needs
- We use the specification your manufacturer sets, from Liqui Moly, Penrite, Motul, Castrol, Mobil and Valvoline. The grade and the brand change the figure.
- Your oil filter
- A less common or dearer filter changes the figure. If a part has to be ordered in, we tell you when we call.
- What your schedule calls for
- Other filters, spark plugs or fluids due at this service are extra items, priced before we start.
You stay in the driver's seat.
Choose your service
Basic or European servicing, or tyres. Not sure? Pick “something else” and tell us what's going on.
Give us your rego
Or your tyre size. That is how we look up your car and what it takes.
We call you back
With the price for your car and a time that suits. Nothing is booked until you say yes.
Where do I find the engine code?
Usually on a sticker in the service booklet, and often on a label in the spare wheel well. It is a short letter-and-number code. If you cannot find it, send us the rego, model and build year and we will work it out before quoting.
Can you use the correct specification oil?
Yes, that is the point of asking for the engine code. We buy oil that meets the specification your engine calls for, and the invoice records what went in, which is what matters if the service history is ever questioned.
Do you service the dual-clutch transmission?
Where your schedule specifies that service, yes, using the specified fluid. Tell us the model and year and we will confirm whether your car has one and whether it is due.
Details
Volkswagen is where a generic service goes wrong most often, and almost always for the same reason: the wrong oil. The specification is not a suggestion and it is not interchangeable between engines, so we ask for the engine code before we put a number on anything.
We are not a Volkswagen dealer and we are not authorised by Volkswagen. We are an independent workshop that buys the correct specification and documents that we did.
Volkswagen Australia's schedule is below, with its source. For your exact variant, your car's own book is the final word.
Volkswagen oil approvals
- VW 504 00 / 507 00 · 5W-30
- Long-life petrol (504) and low-ash diesel (507) engines
- VW 508 00 / 509 00 · 0W-20
- Newer engines built for it only. Not backwards compatible
- VW 502 00 / 505 01 · 5W-40
- Older petrol engines, and older pump-injector diesels
